محمية عتمة
حبا الله اليمن بتضاريس و مناخات متنوعة نتجت عنه أنواع متعددة من الأقاليم والبيئات التي تنوعت فيها أشكال الحياة البرية والبحرية والنباتية والحيوانية النادرة ذات ألأهمية الوطنية والإقليمية ,منها محمية عتمة الواقعة في غرب مدينة ذمار وتبعد عنها حوالي (55كم) تقريباً ,والتي تقدر مساحتها (460كم/64هكتاراً) .
لقد اشتق اسمها من العتم , ومعناه ظلمة الليل , ويطلق الاسم كذلك على شجر الزيتون البري , وهما صفتان من صفات المنطقة .
لقد عرفت هذه المنطقة منذ زمن بعيد بأنها سلة الأغذية والمحاصيل الزراعية المتنوعة ,إذ تشتهر بزراعة المحاصيل النقدية , وكذلك الخضروات ,وأنواع الفواكه ,إلى جانب زراعة البن,كما تحتوي على أشجار معمرة ونباتات طبية وعطرية نادرة ,وليس ذلك فحسب, بل وتنمو فيها الأشجار الطبيعية التي تكسو الأرض بالخضرة طوال العام , فضلا عن التنوع الحيواني , إذ تنتشر فيها تربية الحيوانات الأليفة , بالإضافة إلى الحيوانات البرية , كالزواحف والطيور والحيوانات المفترسة ,لذلك صارت مقصداً للذين ينشدون الاستمتاع بالجمال الطبيعي ,ومراقبة الأحياء البرية والطيور المتواجدة فيها , وكذلك التعرف عن قرب على الموروث الاجتماعي والثقافي للسكان المحليين, والمناطق التاريخية كالحصون والقلاع القديمة .
ومما لاشك فيه إن موقعها المتميز,واعتدال مناخها , وتنوع التضاريس الجبلية التي تغطيها نسبة عالية من التربة الزراعية الخصبة ,وارتفاع معدلات سقوط الأمطار السنوية عليها , ووجود الكثير من العيون والينابيع,قد جعلت المنطقة من أفضل المواقع التي ينبغي المحافظة عليها , لذا قامت الحكومة بالإعلان عنها كمحمية طبيعية , وأصدرت بذلك قرار مجلس الوزراء رقم (137) لسنة 1999م.
Atma Reserve
Allah, the Almighty, has endowed Yemen with a wide variety of topography and climate. As a result, the various provinces and environments have been blessed with different rare forms of wild life, marine life, and flora and fauna that are of high national and regional importance. One of the richest of these bestowments is the reserve of atma, a 460 sq km (64 hectares) reserve, and located 55 km to the west of Dhimar city.
The name of this reserve is derived from Atam , which has two meanings in Arabic. The first is darkness and the second is wild olive trees, both of which are typical characteristics of the region.
The region has been known as an agriculture basket with plentiful harvests of fruits, vegetable s and coffee, in addition to rare perennial trees, and medicinal and aromatic plants .The land is evergreen all round the year, and has a great diversity of animal life as there are many pet animals and other wild creatures including reptiles, birds and beasts of prey .The place is a popular destination for lovers of nature, wild animals and birds. It also attracts those interested in ancient buildings, especially forts and castles that represent the social and cultural heritage of the local region.
The distinguished location, good weather, diverse surface features, fertile soil, high annual rainfall and the large number of wells and springs have all created a strong case for the preservation of this region. So it is not surprising that the government issued a cabinet decree in 1999 declaring it to be a natural reserve.
